Delco dis police11/12/2023 ![]() Most recently, Superintendent Bernhardt was featured on national television in the A&E Series Intervention – Season #20. He spearheaded the department’s Racial Intelligence Program, which provided thorough training and certification for 131 officers, empowering them with improved communication, while building department morale and community trust. Superintendent Bernhardt is a champion of change and innovation. He is a well-regarded professional, often called upon to provide valuable expert testimony in various courts of law. He played key roles with the Delaware County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and the FBI’s Violent Gang Task Force, where he conducted hundreds of undercover operations throughout the county, and at times across state lines. Superintendent Bernhardt has formed strong working relationships with numerous outside agencies. He has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades during his tenure, but he is most proud of being the Recipient of the prestigious Dennis McNamara Police Officer of the Year Memorial Award. He has outstanding leadership competencies with judicious decision-making, interpersonal and critical-thinking skills, and an unyielding passion to develop, inspire, and lead others. Superintendent Bernhardt is a proud graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School, the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy, the Williamson College of the Trades, and Neumann University. With highly skilled service as an officer and investigator in numerous assignments, he quickly rose through the ranks and earned a command as Lieutenant of the Narcotics Division and Mountain Bicycle and Traffic Unit. Bernhardt is a highly decorated and accomplished police commander with 22 years of law enforcement experience, proudly serving with the Upper Darby Township Police Department for the past 17 years. We believe the overall quality of life for all residents is improved through the deterrence of criminal activity and an understanding of the community. It is the mission of the Delphos Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve. The department’s active participation ensures additional resources such as manpower and equipment in investigating criminal activity. In addition to investigating drug activity, the task force presents public information talks to community, civic or school assemblies on drug related topics. This unit is made up of several law enforcement agencies throughout Allen County, Van Wert County and Paulding County, several of which assign law enforcement personnel from their agency to work full and part time with Officers from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. ![]() The Delphos Police Department is an active member of the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force. In order to maintain knowledge of State and Federal Mandates and the ever-changing aspects of modern law enforcement, the Delphos Police Department continuously seeks to increase educational opportunities for its staff. In addition, the city adjudicates its own local Mayor’s Court. This requires officers to have knowledge and exercise skill in dealing with two Juvenile Courts, two Municipal Courts and two Common Pleas Court systems. ![]() The Delphos Police Department is unique in that the city is geographically divided among two counties.
